Gabriela Anders Wanting Jazz Music CD Review

January 22nd, 2011

I can describe the latest release from Jazz sensation Gabriela Anders for you with just one word… Outstanding!

Refreshingly, this was one of those CDs I was able to just pop in and comfortably listen to from beginning to end. Every track is enjoyable and was pretty easy for me to listen to from start to finish.

These days it’s a very rare CD on which every single song is good or better than the one before it. This CD is certainly one of those rare CDs.

Overall Wanting is a solid release. Quite possibly Gabriela Anders’s best to date. Really spectacular from beginning to end. If you’re even mildly into Jazz music you’ll enjoy this album.

While this entire album is really very good some of my favorites are track 2 – The Girl From Ipanema, track 5 – You Know What It’s Like, and track 12 – Basileira

My Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [...as in "Stuck On REpeat"] is track 1 – Fire Of Love. What a nice track!

Freddie Hubbard First Light Jazz Music CD Review

Jazz Music

One word describes the CD First Light from Freddie Hubbard… AWESOME!

It’s a rare day indeed that I get a CD from an artist that I can truthfully say does not have a bad track in the bunch. I’m more than happy to announce that’s exactly what I must say about this one. There simply is NOT a bad one in the bunch. No fillers here at all, with each song standing tall on it’s own.

Jazz music fans will recognize some of the well known contributors on the project including George Marge and Romeo Pengue plus a few other notables as well.

Listen to First Light and I believe you’ll find there’s not much to dis-like about it. The songs are inspired, the production is simply outstanding, and Freddie Hubbard is clearly in top form. So much so that if you’re even mildly into Jazz music you’ll enjoy this CD.

While this entire CD is really very good the truly standout tunes are track 3 – Moment To Moment, track 5 – Lonely Town, and track 6 – Fantasy In D.

My Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [...as in "Stuck On REpeat"] is track 1 – First Light. This is a great track!

First Light Release Notes:

Freddie Hubbard originally released First Light on October 25, 1990 on the CTI/CBS label.

Not sure what’s happening with me on this one, but it seems like the more I listen to it, the better Transition Sessions gets. Transition Sessions put simply is one of Donald Byrd’s best CDs to date.

Jazz music fans will recognize some of the well known contributors on the project including Doug Watkins and Tom Wilson plus a few other notables as well.

If you’re a Donald Byrd fan this is a CD your collection flat cannot be without. In fact, this is one of those CDs that you don’t even have to be a fan of Byrd, or even Jazz to know is good. It’s just good music. Period.

While the entire CD is outstanding the truly standout tunes are track 4 – Everything Happens To Me, track 8 – Polka Dots And Moonbeams, and track 7 – What’s New.

My Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [...as in "Stuck On REpeat"] is track 1 – Doug’s Blues. Great track!

Stanley Clarke Toys of Men Jazz Music CD Review

January 18th, 2011

The exceptionally talented Jazz artist Stanley Clarke has released him CD entitled Toys Of Men. I am very confident and happy to announce that I believe Stanley Clarke fans, and Jazz fans alike will be pleased with this one. With the release of Toys Of Men Stanley Clarke’s artistic excellence is on full display as Clarke has once again delivered a brilliant collection of tracks that could very well be him best work to date.

The CD opens with an outstanding track, The Toys Of Men, that I anticipate will be heard on radio stations everywhere, and deservedly so. It really is a very nice track.

Toys Of Men has a pleasantly varied, mix of 13 tracks that are very well written songs by this clearly outstanding artist. Most of the songs display a lot of the kind emotion that makes for a really great listen. Seemingly drawing from what I can only imagine are him own real life experiences. At different points touching on the most real emotions like love, and the pain of failed relationships can certainly be heard.

Listen to Toys Of Men and I believe you’ll find there’s not much to dis-like about it. The songs are inspired, the production is simply outstanding, and Stanley Clarke is clearly in top form. So much so that if you’re even mildly into Jazz music you’ll enjoy this CD.
